About Dubai

The Palm IslandDubai is one of seven Emirates that make up the United Arab Emirates. The capital city is Abu Dhabi, which is approximately 120 kilometers from Dubai.

Dubai is one of the worlds fastest growing cities, having more than doubled its population every decade consistently for the last 40 years. Dubai has a current population of just over 1.4 million, made up of 42% Indian nationals, 17% Emiratis, and 5% Western expatriates. There is a ratio of three men to every woman.

The official language of Dubai is Arabic, although English is widely spoken, and on almost every sign board. Hindi, Urdu, Malayalam and Tagalog are also widely spoken.

Of Dubai’s US$40 Billion economy, only 6% is generated through crude and natural gas reserves.  Dubai’s boom has largely been as a result of real estate projects and its attractive tax-free status. More recently, through dedicated ‘free-zones’, foreign investors are eligible for 100% ownership in firms, without any form or corporate tax, or fees for the repatriation of funds.

The weather is quite seasonal, with average temperatures in the ‘winter’ of 25c and average temperatures during the summer months of 40c. Dubai experiences a very short period of cold weather, with an average annual rainfall of 7.5cm.

With such projects as ‘The Palm’, ‘The World’, DubaiLand, Dubai Metro, Burj Dubai, Dubai Mall and many more globally recognised developments, Dubai is building for the future, to ensure it is recognized as a world leading city. Advances in infrastructure and continued investments are boosting trade and ensuring Dubai maintains its status as a desirable destination for people to relocate to.
